2nd Research Carnival on Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)- Nairobi,Kenya.

The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) joined other National Societies (NS) and partners in the 2nd Research Carnival on Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), held in Nairobi, Kenya 23-25 September 2026.
The Carnival with the theme “Reimagining Wellbeing”, was organized by the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement MHPSS Hub, Kenya Red Cross, British Red Cross, and Swiss Red Cross societies, in partnership with Protect Humanitarians and McGill University.

The GRCS, head of training Mr. Ernest P. Nyame-Annan, with the Zambian Red Cross Society counterpart, Ms. Serah Kalumbilo, presented and had a penal discussion on a comparative lesson of MHPSS interventions across sectors of the two national societies.
They highlighted the progress of PSS activities and how important MHPSS must be institutionalized and integrated in all programmes of the national societies. They stressed that MHPSS should not be a stand-alone but integrated and mainstreamed across all sectors.

They demonstrated how each NS is doing in the communities with health education (COVID-19, Cholera, Mpox etc.), first aid training and disaster risk activities (Flood operations) by the outstanding volunteers and staff.
It was also noted that self-care for staff and volunteers is very crucial for effective humanitarian actions. Therefore, the need to take critical care of the mental health of humanitarian workers.
Both NS were grateful for the continuous support by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, especially on their recent MHPSS framework development progress.
Let’s Protect Our Humanitarians, the Drivers of Saving Lives.
