A standout achievement of the year was the revival of the Mothers’ Club initiative, once the pride of the GRCS during the 1980s. A new Mothers’ Club Policy titled “Wardens Of Mankind And Nations” (WOMAN) was developed jointly with the Mothers’ Club leadership to institutionalize and protect the unique contributions of Red Cross mothers, many of whom may not have formal education but possess deep community wisdom and practical experience.

These women are now formally engaged to provide support to girls, pregnant women, new mothers, and the elderly, reinforcing the GRCS’s presence in community health and care services. In 2004, the President of the IFRC visited Ghana, during which she interacted with the Mothers’ Club. The members, inspired by the Presidency of the IFRC, ably held by a woman their generation officially appoint Kate Forbes as their Honorary President, recognizing her as a full Ghana Red Cross Society Mothers’ Club member. They pledged to highlight Kate’s leadership and encourage other successful women within the Red Cross and beyond to be inspired that, impactful female leadership is both attainable and essential, and women’s progress is amplified when women support one another in leadership role, indicating their resolve to encourage more women to step forward and take up responsible positions within the Movement.
