Health and Wellbeing
The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) plays a leading role in providing safe water, promoting hygiene, and preventing disease in communities across the country.
Our work ensures that families in both rural and urban areas have reliable access to clean water and essential health information.
Through our community-based water systems, GRCS delivers safe water to thousands of people every day. In partnership with organizations such as Fontes Foundation, Myclimate.org, and the Netherlands Red Cross, we rehabilitate damaged water systems, develop new ones, and support communities to manage and sustain them effectively.
Our Urban WASH program focuses on low-income communities, promoting water conservation, hygiene practices, and access to affordable household water connections.
By working closely with the Ghana Water Company and local partners, we empower communities to take ownership of their water resources.
When outbreaks occur, GRCS responds quickly.
During cholera alerts, our volunteers conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns, visit schools and markets, and share life-saving messages on hygiene and safe water use.
Together with the IFRC, ICRC, and other partners, GRCS continues to strengthen community health systems and lead innovative WASH initiatives that improve lives, protect dignity, and build resilience.
